It’s the most widely used phrase by a manufacturer that what has been produced will provide satisfaction to the consumer -- guaranteed. There is the thought that what one buys is supposed to perform to its best ability and/or fulfill the need for which it was purchased.

As I mulled over what to write for this article, I had to ask myself a question that I wasn’t sure I wanted the answer to. Moreover, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to know the truth of the answer. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the most plaguing questions any single person has to answer: “Am I satisfied?”

Pondering this question, one segment of scripture was immediately brought to mind: “…You are not your own; you were bought at a price” (1 Corinthians 19b-20a NIV).

I am not my own. I was bought at a price. What exactly does that mean? At best it means:

1) I am a product that has been produced by a manufacturer.

2) I am a product bought by a consumer.

3) I am a product that is supposed to provide satisfaction to the consumer.

What exactly does my being a product have to do with me being satisfied? The answer is quite simple. If I understand myself to be a product, then I must identify my manufacturer. As a believer in Christ, I understand that my manufacturer is God the Father. In the book of Genesis, Chapter 1 verse 26 reminds me that “God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness’” (NASB). This lets me know that I was an idea formed in the mind of God with the intention of being produced for a specific purpose. How do I know? The Lord told Jeremiah this way, “I am your Creator, and before you were born, I chose you” (Jer.1:5, CEV).

“Chosen”? --- Chosen to do what? To bring satisfaction to the consumer. In this instance – Jesus.
I was chosen before I was born to bring satisfaction to God the Son. He is the one who paid a ransom for my soul. Remember the old hymn that said, “Jesus paid it all. All to him I owe”? Well…the hymnist was right. I am to give him my all. I owe it to him! Every thought, every action, every prayer, every praise, and every honor - absolutely everything is owed to him. I am a product bought by Jesus and I am to do everything I can to bring satisfaction to him. After all, God did put a “Satisfaction Guaranteed” label on me. He did that in the Garden of Eden when He looked at mankind and blessed them (Gen. 1:28 KJV). His blessing upon mankind is His seal of approval; --- “Satisfaction Guaranteed.”

Again, what does that have to do with me being satisfied? I become satisfied when I live up to the label that has been placed upon me. I am satisfied when I am living in a manner that is most pleasing and acceptable unto the Father. My satisfaction comes when I know that I am doing everything in my ability to bring satisfaction to the Son. I become satisfied when I know that I am allowing the Holy Spirit to be my guide in every area of my life.

Think about it this way. When you buy something and it doesn’t live up to its intended purpose, what do you do? Most would either return the product, call the manufacturer with a complaint, or just simply throw it away.

The good thing about God the Father being the manufacturer and God the Son being the consumer is that they are not like us. They were in agreement when the product was produced and bought. They agreed that the product had the capability to live up to its label, “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” That is why they made us “according to their likeness.” That is why the Holy Spirit dwells within us. To help us live out our label “Satisfaction Guaranteed.”

Now,

I dare to ask you: Are you satisfied? Are you living up to your label?

“Satisfaction Guaranteed”.
